Fleshly does not necessarily mean evil
Fleshly does not necessarily mean evil
Summary:
The Bible uses the term "FLESHLY [sarkikos 4559 in Greeek]" (or "carnal") to describe a range of things.
The term "FLESHLY " does not necessarily mean that something is evil.
You can find more details below:
Romans 15:27:
Paul wrote: "Macedonia and Achaia were-well-pleased to-make (a) certain contribution for the poor (among) the holy (ones) in Jerusalem. For they-were-well-pleased, and they-are their debtors. For if the Gentiles shared (in) their spiritual (things), they are-indebted also to-minister (to) them in FLESHLY [sarkikos 4559 in Greeek] (THINGS)" (Romans 15:26-27).
When Paul speaks of the Gentiles ministering to the Jewish believers in FLESHLY THINGS, he is referring to material or physical support (such as financial contributions, food, or other necessities), not to anything evil or sinful. The contrast is between the "spiritual things" the Gentiles have received (the gospel and spiritual blessings) and the "FLESHLY THINGS" they are now giving in return (material contribution for the poor in Jerusalem).
1 Corinthians 9:
Paul wrote to the Corinthians: "If we sowed spiritual (things to) you, (is it a) great (thing) if we shall-reap FLESHLY [sarkikos 4559 in Greeek] (THINGS from) you?" (1 Corinthians 9:11).
Paul is drawing a contrast between the spiritual blessings he and his coworkers have given to the Corinthians (through preaching and teaching the gospel) and the material support, which he calls the FLESHLY THINGS (such as food, shelter, or financial assistance) that he might receive from them in return. Those FLESHLY THINGS mentioned here are not meant to be evil as it can be implied here that Paul would want to reap such things from the Corinthians.
Galatians 6:
Paul wrote: "NEITHER CIRCUMCISION nor uncircumcision IS ANYTHING, but (a) new creation" (Galatians 6:15). Paul wrote here about the "(CIRCUMCISION) in the visible (thing) in (the) FLESH [sarx 4561 in Greek]" (Romans 2:28).
Paul wrote that the CIRCUMCISION in the FLESH is not ANYTHING. Paul did not write that such circumcision is evil, but that such CIRCUMCISION is not ANYTHING (just like uncircumcision).
