From fleshly marriage to spiritual marriage

From fleshly marriage to spiritual marriage

From being married in the flesh to not being married in the flesh:

Matthew 19:

After Jesus gave a teaching about marriage in the flesh, the disciples of Jesus said: "“If the case (of) the man with the wife is like this, IT-IS NOT EXPEDIENT TO-MARRY” But the (One) [Jesus] said (to) them, “NOT ALL MAKE-ROOM-FOR THIS STATEMENT, but (only ones to) whom it-has-been-given" (Matthew 19:10-11).

Jesus then praised the merits of not being married in the flesh, saying: "For there-are eunuchs who were-born thus from (a) mother’s womb. And there-are eunuchs who were-made-eunuchs by people. And THERE-ARE EUNUCHS WHO MADE THEMSELVES EUNUCHS FOR-THE-SAKE-OF THE KINGDOM (OF) THE HEAVENS. LET THE (ONE) BEING-ABLE TO-MAKE-ROOM (FOR IT), MAKE-ROOM (FOR IT)”." (Matthew 19:12).

Jesus mentioned here specifically eunuchs for the sake of "the kingdom (of) the heavens" (Matthew 19:12).

Matthew 24:

Jesus said: "as in those days before the flood they-were eating and drinking, MARRYING AND GIVING-IN-MARRIAGE, until which day Noah entered into the ark, and DID NOT KNOW until the flood came and took-away everyone, so also will-be the coming (of) the Son (of) Man" (Matthew 24:38-39).

Jesus mentioned here specifically how people were "eating and drinking" (Matthew 24:38).

Luke 14:

Jesus said: "“(A) certain man was-making (a) great dinner, and he-invited many. And he-sent-out his slave (at) the hour (of) the dinner to-say (to) the (ones) having-been-invited, ‘Come, because it-is already prepared. And they all alike began TO-EXCUSE(-THEMSELVES)" (Luke 14:16-18) as one "said, ‘I-MARRIED (A) WOMAN, AND FOR THIS REASON I-am not able to come’." (Luke 14:20).

Jesus mentioned here specifically a "great dinner" (Luke 14:16).

1 Corinthians 7:

Paul wrote concerning marriage in the flesh: "BECAUSE-OF SEXUAL-IMMORALITIES, let each (man) have his (own) wife, and let each (woman) have (her) own husband" (1 Corinthians 7:2), "But I-am-saying this BY-WAY-OF CONCESSION, not by-way-of command" (1 Corinthians 7:6).

And: "I-say (to) the unmarried and the widows [...] IF THEY-ARE NOT INNER-MIGHTED, let-them-marry. For it-is better to-marry than TO-BE-BURNING" (1 Corinthians 7:8-9).

Paul added a reason to consider: "if the virgin may-have-married, she-did not sin. BUT SUCH (ONES) WILL-HAVE AFFLICTION (IN) THE FLESH, and I AM-SPARING YOU" (1 Corinthians 7:28).

And: "THE (MAN) HAVING-MARRIED IS-CONCERNED (ABOUT) THE (THINGS OF) THE WORLD, HOW HE-MAY PLEASE HIS WIFE, and HE-HAS-BEEN-DIVIDED" (1 Corinthians 7:33-34).

And: "THE (WOMAN) HAVING-MARRIED IS-CONCERNED (ABOUT) THE (THINGS OF) THE WORLD, HOW SHE-MAY PLEASE HER HUSBAND" (1 Corinthians 7:34).

And: "You-were-bought (with a) price; DO NOT BECOME SLAVES (OF) PEOPLE" (1 Corinthians 7:23).

Paul contrasted this with not marrying, writing: "I-WISH (THAT) ALL PEOPLE WERE AS INDEED MYSELF" (1 Corinthians 7:7), "I-say (to) the UNMARRIED and the widows, (IT IS) GOOD (FOR) THEM IF THEY-REMAIN AS I-ALSO (AM)" (1 Corinthians 7:8-9).

Paul added reasons to consider: "I-want you TO-BE-FREE-FROM-CONCERN" (1 Corinthians 7:32).

And: "THE UNMARRIED (MAN) IS-CONCERNED (ABOUT) THE (THINGS OF) THE LORD, how he-may-please the Lord" (1 Corinthians 7:32).

And "THE UNMARRIED WOMAN, and the virgin, IS-CONCERNED (ABOUT) THE (THINGS OF) THE LORDthat she-may-be holy both (in) the body and (in) the spirit" (1 Corinthians 7:34).

And: "I-am-saying this for THE BENEFIT (OF) YOU YOURSELVES, not that I-may-throw (a) noose on you, but TOWARD GOOD-ORDER AND DEVOTION (TO) THE LORD, UNDISTRACTEDLY" (1 Corinthians 7:35).

And regarding a wife who had been married: "if (her) husband falls-asleep, she-is free to-be-married (to) whom she-wishes, only in (the) Lord. BUT SHE-IS HAPPIER IS SHE-REMAINS THUS" (1 Corinthians 7:39-40).

Paul concluded that "the (one) NOT GIVING-IN-MARRIAGE WILL-DO BETTER" (1 Corinthians 7:38).

Paul mentioned specifically "devotion (to) the Lord" (1 Corinthians 7:35).

1 Timothy 5:

Paul wrote: "be-declining YOUNGER widows. For when THEY-GROW-WANTON (AGAINST) CHRIST, THEY-WANT TO-MARRY" (1 Timothy 5:11), "Therefore, I-WANT YOUNGER (WIDOWS) TO-MARRY, to-bear-children, to-manage-the-house, to-give (to) the (one) opposing no opportunity for-the-sake-of reviling. FOR SOME ALREADY TURNED-ASIDE AFTER SATAN" (1 Timothy 5:14-15).

In contrast, Paul wrote: "But the (one who is) TRULY widow AND HAS-BEEN-LEFT-ALONE HAS-PUT-(HER)-HOPE UPON GOD, and CONTINUES-IN-PETITIONS AND PRAYERS (by) night and (by) day" (1 Timothy 5:5).

Paul mentioned here specifically "to-bear-children" (1 Timothy 5:14) for the younger widows, so that they would not grow wanton against Christ (but such is not prescribed for the truly widow).

Matthew 22:

Jesus said: "in the resurrection, they NEITHER MARRY NOT ARE-GIVEN-IN-MARRIAGE, but are like angels of God IN HEAVEN" (Matthew 22:30).

From fleshly marriage to spiritual marriage:

Matthew 9:

Jesus referred to Himself as the bridegroom, as it is written: "the disciples (of) John come to Him, saying “For what reason are we and the Pharisees fasting often, but Your disciples are not fasting?” And JESUS said (to) them, “The sons (of) the WEDDING-HALL can not be-mourning as long-as THE BRIDEGROOM IS WITH THEM, (can they)? But days will-come when THE BRIDEGROOM is-taken-away from them, and then they-will-fast" (Matthew 9:14-15).

Paul mentioned here specifically that "they-will-fast" (Matthew 9:15).

Jesus said: "the kingdom (of) the heavens will-be-like ten virgins, who, having-taken their lamps, went-out TO MEET THE BRIDEGROOM" (Matthew 25:1). Later "THE BRIDEGROOM CAME. And the prepared (ones) entered with him INTO THE WEDDING-CELEBRATIONS" (Matthew 25:10).

Jesus mentioned here specifically "the kingdom (of) the heavens" (Matthew 25:1).

John 4:

Jesus spoke alone to a woman at a well, and said to her: "Jesus responded and said (to) her, “Everyone DRINKING FROM THIS WATER WILL-THIRST AGAIN. But whoever should-drink from the water which I will-give him, HE-WILL NEVER THRIST, to the age" (John 4:13-14). Then "He-says (to) her, “GO, CALL YOUR HUSBAND and come here”. The woman responded and said (to) Him, “I-do not have (a) husband”. Jesus says (to) her, “You-said rightly that ‘I-do not have a-husband’. For YOU-HAD FIVE HUSBANDS. And now he-whom you-have IS NOT YOUR HUSBAND. You-have-spoken this (as a) true (thing)”." (John 4:16-18).

And so "THE WOMAN LEFT THE WATERPOT, and went into the city. And she-says (to) the people, “Come, SEE (A) MAN Who told me everything that I-did. This (One) is not THE CHRIST, (is He)?”" (John 4:28-29).

Jesus mentioned here specifically "drinking from this water" (John 4:13).

2 Corinthians 11:

Paul wrote again to the Corinthians, this time, about a spiritual marriage, writing: "I-am-jealous-for you (with a) jealousy (of) God. For I-BETROTHED YOU (TO) ONE HUSBAND, (that I might) present (you as A) PURE VIRGIN (TO) CHRIST" (2 Corinthians 11:2).

Ephesians 5:

Paul wrote: "(a) husband is (the) head (of his) wife as also CHRIST (IS THE) HEAD (OF) THE CHURCH" (Ephesians 5:23), "Husbands, be-loving (your) wives JUST-AS CHRIST ALSO LOVED THE CHURCH and handed-over Himself for her in-order-that He-might-sanctify her, having-cleansed (her with) the washing (of) water by (the) word, in-order-that HE MIGHT-PRESENT THE CHURCH (TO) HIMSELF (as) glorious" (Ephesians 5:25-27), "The (one) loving his wife is-loving himself. For no-one ever hated his (own) flesh, but he-nourishes and cherishes it, JUST-AS CHRIST ALSO (DOES) THE CHURCH" (Ephesians 5:29-30), "For this (cause a) man shall-leave-behind (his) father and mother and shall-be-joined to his wife, and the two will-be one flesh”. THIS MYSTERY is great, but I AM-SPEAKING (WITH REFERENCE) TO CHRIST AND (WITH REFERENCE) TO THE CHURCH" (Ephesians 5:31-32).

Paul mentioned here specifically that "no-one ever hated his (own) flesh, but he-nourishes and cherishes it" (Ephesians 5:29).

Revelation 19:

It is written: "Let-us-rejoice and be-overjoyed, and give the glory (to) Him, because THE WEDDING (OF) THE LAMB CAME, AND HIS WIFE PREPARED HERSELF" (Revelation 19:7), "And he-says (to) me, “Write — ‘BLESSED (are) the (ones) HAVING-BEEN-CALLED TO THE BANQUET (OF) THE WEDDING (OF) THE LAMB”" (Revelation 19:9).

It is mentioned here specifically about "the banquet" (Revelation 19:9) of the wedding of the Lamb.

From a fleshly Adam to a spiritual Adam:

Genesis 2:

It is written: "the LORD God built the rib which he took from Adam into a woman, and He brought her to Adam. And ADAM said, “This now is bone out of my bones, and FLESH OUT OF MY FLESH; she will be called Woman" (Genesis 2:22-23).

1 Corinthians 15:

It is written: "it-has-been-written [in Genesis 2:7], “THE FIRST MAN, ADAM, became (a) living soul”. THE LAST ADAM (became a) life-giving SPIRIT" (1 Corinthians 15:45).

The first man Adam is contrasted with the last Adam, Jesus Christ.

From not being alone in a fleshly sense to not being alone in a spiritual sense:

Genesis 2:

It is written: "the LORD God said, “It is NOT GOOD FOR THE MAN TO BE ALONE [monos 3441 in Greek]. Let Us make for him a helper according to him.”" (Genesis 2:18) and so "the LORD God built the rib which he took from Adam into a woman, and He brought her to Adam. And Adam said, “This now is bone out of my bones, and FLESH OUT OF MY FLESH; she will be called Woman" (Genesis 2:22-23).

John 8:

Jesus said: "THE (ONE) HAVING-SENT ME IS WITH ME. HE-DID NOT LEAVE ME ALONE [monos 3441 in Greek], because I am always doing the (things) pleasing (to) Him" (John 8:29).

Jesus mentioned a condition for Him to have the Father with Him and not to be left alone: "BECAUSE I am always doing the (things) pleasing (to) Him" (John 8:29).

John 16:

Jesus said: "I-AM NOT ALONE [monos 3441 in Greek], BECAUSE THE FATHER IS WITH ME" (John 16:32).

From a fleshly helper to a spiritual helper:

Genesis 2:

It is written: "the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man TO BE ALONE. Let Us make FOR HIM A HELPER [boéthos 998 in Greek] according to him.”" (Genesis 2:18) and so "the LORD God built the rib which he took from Adam into a woman, and He brought her to Adam. And Adam said, “This now is bone out of my bones, and FLESH OUT OF MY FLESH; she will be called WOMAN" (Genesis 2:22-23). Later after that the woman who was the helper sinned, "the LORD God called Adam and said to him, “Adam, where are you?” And he said to Him, “Your voice I heard as You are walking about in the Paradise, and I FEARED because I am naked, and I hid myself.”" (Genesis 3:9-10).

Hebrews 13:

It is written: "He-Himself has-said “I-WILL NEVER LET YOU GO, nor will-I by any means forsake you”, so-that (while) being-confident we say “(THE) LORD (IS A) HELPER [boéthos 998 in Greek] (FOR) ME and I-WILL NOT FEAR. What will (a) human do (to) me?”" (Hebrews 13:5-6).

From being one flesh to being one spirit:

Genesis 2:

It is written: "A MAN will leave his father and his mother and will be joined to HIS WIFE, and they will be, the two, into ONE FLESH" (Gemesis 2:24).

1 Corinthians 6:

Paul wrote: "do-you-know not that THE (ONE) JOINING (HIMSELF TO A) PROSTITUTE IS ONE BODY (WITH HER)? For He-says [in Genesis 2:24] “the two will-be into ONE FLESH”. BUT THE (ONE) JOINING (HIMSELF TO) THE LORD IS ONE SPIRIT (WITH HIM)" (1 Corinthians 6:16-17).

From being a fleshly virgin to being a spiritual virgin:

1 Corinthians 7:

Paul wrote: "if THE VIRGIN may-have-married, she-did not sin. BUT SUCH (ONES) WILL-HAVE AFFLICTION (IN) THE FLESH, and I AM-SPARING YOU" (1 Corinthians 7:28).

2 Corinthians 11:

Paul wrote again to the Corinthians, this time, about a spiritual marriage, writing: "I-am-jealous-for you (with a) jealousy (of) God. For I-BETROTHED YOU (TO) ONE HUSBAND, (that I might) present (you as APURE VIRGIN (TO) CHRIST" (2 Corinthians 11:2).
